Meet the Judge
First appointed by the Governor of Texas, then elected to the Harris County District Court in 1992, Judge Ray has served the citizens of Harris County diligently, serving as a trial Judge for 16 years.
In 1998, she was elected by 59 district court judges to serve as administrative judge for the Harris County District Courts. During her four-year stint in that role, she oversaw a budget of $30 million, managed 270 employees and led the successful campaign to have a new civil courthouse built for Harris County.
Judge Ray has been consistently rated as one of the top civil judges is Harris County . Judge Ray was named the 2006 Trial Judge of the year by the prestigious Texas Association of Civil Trail and Appellate Specialists. TACTAS members include only attorneys and judges who have obtained board certification in Civil Trail Law, Personal Injury Trail Law and Civil Appellate Law.
Judge Ray is a graduate of Texas Tech University and a 1978 graduate of the Baylor Law School. Following graduation: Law clerk for U.S. Magistrate Alex McGlinchey, 1978-1980; sole practitioner, 1980- 1983; Associate Attorney Calvin, Dylewski, Gibbs, Maddox, Russell & Verner, 1985-1987; Partner, Dillard & Ray, 1987-1992. Judge Ray has 30 years of civil litigation practice.
Known for being tough but fair on the trial bench, Judge Ray has experience in complex commercial litigation, products liability, antitrust, civil rights, employment and personal injury cases.
Wife, Mom and Neighbor
Elizabeth is married to Frost Haenchen, an attorney in Houston with the Haenchen Law Firm. They have a daughter Morgan, 19, a son Jake 15, and two older children, Joe and Tricia. Judge Ray and Frost attend Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston, where they are active members. Judge Ray is a volunteer for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the Houston Independent School District.
